Re-drafting Philadelphia 76ers selection from the 2014 NBA draft

It's time to go back in time and look at the draft history of the Philadelphia 76ers. There have been a number of selections made by this franchise and now is the time to look at some of those moves and see who they could have picked on those specific nights.

This edition focuses on the 2014 draft with the Sixers holding the No. 3 pick in an effort to continue growing ad building as a team for the future. Philadelphia selected Joel Embiid with that pick and he turned out to be a legitimate superstar in this league. He won the MVP award in 2023 and has career averages of 27.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.

HoopsHype performed a re-draft of 2014 and had Embiid going No. 2 in that draft. Therefore, they had the Sixers selecting Julius Randle with the No. 3 pick:

Despite a standout lone season at Kentucky, Julius Randle still took a slight tumble on draft night to No. 7 due to a perceived lack of outside shooting and his unwillingness to pass the ball in college. Few could have imagined how Randle would have blossomed in the NBA, as he’s actually now a plus-playmaker out of the frontcourt, a respectable outside shooter and an All-Star-level power forward overall.

Randle, a 2-time All-Star, has averaged 19.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists for his career. He blossomed during his time with the New York Knicks and is now playing well for the Minnesota Timberwolves, playing next to Anthony Edwards.
